A couple weeks ago I talked about Boy Meets World meets Girl Meets World. I mentioned how it was fun to see the characters I grew up with on the screen again, this time with their own children to raise. Well, on Friday, Fuller House was made available on Netflix.
A spin off of the early 90's hit TV show, Full House, Fuller House follows two of the Tanner girls, DJ and Stephanie, and DJ's best friend Kimmy, as they learn how to raise kids of their own. The three of them paired together are very similar to the original Danny, Joey, and Jesse trio. It has been fun to watch and reminisce on past episodes of the original Full House. I also like that they have brought some old characters back and included them in the story. I've definitely enjoyed watching the episodes so far and think it is fun to make connections with my childhood. If you haven't watched it yet, check it out. I can promise it will bring back some memories from your youth.

Parenthood
Back in December, a friend recommended that my husband and I watch Parenthood. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of shows on TV. I am very particular about what I watch so when she made this suggestion I figured this would just be another show full of dumb humor, sexual content, and shallow plots. I promised I would watch all of Season 1 before I turned it down. "You'll be hooked after the pilot episode" my friend promised. Well, that was not the case. In fact, I found the pilot episode to have some dumb humor, sexual content, and a shallow plot, but I had made a promise and I had to stick to it. I wasn't convinced though that I would love the show like my friend said I would. The first day of class, Dr. Coyne mentioned that her favorite TV show right now was Parenthood. I was completely shocked by this, 'were we watching the same show?' I decided to give it another chance. The next three or four episodes still didn't convince me, but I made a promise to finish the whole first season so I pushed through. Suddenly I was halfway through season 2 and I found myself binge watching it. At some point between the pilot episode and season 2 I grew to love the characters. I began to understand each of them on a different level. I found myself taking concepts I've learned from my family studies courses and applying them to this family. I saw attachment issues and communication styles. I found myself analyzing how situations with their children were handled and my husband and I would pause it to discuss what we would do if the same situation happened to us and our future kids.
Now on season 5, I can honestly say I really like Parenthood. I've learned a lot about different parenting techniques, marriage conflicts, and have
been able to discuss what went well and what could be better. I can't say that everyone would love the show and should watch it, but I can say that I've been an active audience and by doing so I have been able to learn from what I watch.

Sundays with Gene Kelly
Growing up, my siblings and I were only allowed to watch church movies, musicals, or select Disney movies on Sundays. I grew to love musicals, especially musicals with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. These musicals were always really fun to watch and sing along with. The story line was clean and my parent's never had to worry about questionable material. As a teenage girl, I had pictures of Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra in my locker while my friends had the latest heart throb.
Today, I decided to watch "Anchors Aweigh" featuring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. As I watched, memories of watching it before when I lived at home came to my mind. The songs were fun and nostalgic and I fell in love with Gene and Frank again.
It is interesting how much movies have changed. At one point, musicals were the normal thing to come to theater, now a musical is a rare occasion. I want to instill a love of musicals in my own family when I have children. I think it's important for parents to know what their kids are watching and old movies like "Anchors Aweigh" is a movie no parent should have to worry about.

Boy Meets World meets Girl Meets World
I've been watching Girl Meets World, a spin off of the 90's Boy Meets World, for my groups content analysis project. It's been nostalgic as I watch grown up Cory and Topgana as the raise two kids of their own. I remember afternoons spent watching Cory, Sean, and the gang grow up. It was one of my favorite shows and I really felt I could connect to some of the life challenges. Watching Girl Meets World has been interesting. I'm definitely not a tween anymore so the humor found in the show doesn't appeal to me. There are still circumstances that I'm sure teens can relate. I do think it's fun that Disney decided to re-do the series, this time with Cory and Topanga's daughter as the lead. It's fun to see some connections to the past series and see how it is applicable to the youth today.
